On Your Mark: Want to Run For New Jersey Special Election for Senate?

The man (Senator Frank Lautenberg) hasn't even been buried yet (he passed away yesterday at age 89) but New Jersey Governor Chris Christie just announced the dates for the special primary and special general election for his replacement.

The special election will be Wednesday, October 16th.  The regular general election (in which Christie is running for re-election) is November 5th.

The party primary for the special election will be Tuesday, August 13th.

Candidates must collect 1,000 signatures from enrolled party members or unaffiliated voters switching to vote in that party, and the petitions must be filed by a date yet to be determined.  Applicable New Jersey election law indicates Monday June 10th would be the filing deadline, but the state board of elections will release dates later.  However, interested candidates can start collecting signatures NOW.

Independent candidate petitions would presumably be due August 13th but again, wait for the state to confirm that later.

  1. Our RINO Governor has decided to punt. He could have selected a conservative to the seat giving us a small advantage for two years but he decided to not take a stand. Not surprising. This was the only way I could have ever seen republican representation in my life time in this state and he took it away. Can you have ever imagined a republican Senator in the state of New Jersey? How weird but how immensely gratifying, not to mention all the good it would have done for the state and the country. In the end, he chose not to, typical of his lack of leadership and his overwhelming commitment to politics rather than to the betterment of our state of affairs. I am so sick of these RINOs and the destruction that they do to what was once the Conservative Republican Party.
