Espada Indicted For Health Care Fraud

New York State Senator (and former Senate Majority Leader) Pedro Espada, and his son Pedro G. Espada, were both indicted today on federal criminal charges alleging embezzlement of federal funds in connection with their Soundview Health Clinic. The indictments were handed down by a Brooklyn federal grand jury.

Espada's clinics have received federal government funding in the past. This gives credence to the claim that public funds were converted into private benefits, constituting a misuse (and claimed criminality) of taxpayer funds.  This sparked government scrutiny.
